Trash Destination

The Trash Destination Adapter is a development aid. It allows you to quickly terminate a data flow path, and does not require any configuration. It will consume the rows without any side effects, and prevents warnings or errors you may otherwise receive when executing the data flow.

When building data flows you rarely complete them at the first attempt. By terminating the partially completed flow with the Trash Destination, you will not add any overhead to the processing, and it requires no configuration or external resources. You can then quickly add a Data Viewer to the path, and execute the package to check on your progress.

For existing packages you may encounter problems, and wish to use an error output for row redirection where you would normally fail the component. Using the Trash Destination and a data viewer to consume and view the failing rows in the development environment is a fast and efficient way to help debug your problem.

The Trash Destination is available for both SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008, and will include support for the automatic upgrade of packages between 2005 and 2008.

The Trash Destination Adapter is available free of charge from SQLIS.com, our free community resource site for SQL Server Integration Services.
